Elementary My Dear Yellen
Upon analyzing the words of U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen it seems there are no 'showstoppers' when it comes to discussions with G7 finance ministers regarding a potential loan for Ukraine backed by frozen Russian assets. Yellen remains optimistic about the progress made at the recent finance summit in Stresa. 'I think things look pretty good,' she remarked much like the confidence I have in solving a tricky case.
The Game is Afoot
Despite the lack of concrete details on the proposed loan coming out of the Stresa talks Yellen is determined to push forward the earnings on Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine. It seems the mystery of the loan's specifics will remain unsolved for now much like a cryptic message left at a crime scene.
The China Conundrum
Yellen also shed light on the varying opinions among G7 ministers regarding China's industrial overcapacity. While some fear a potential trade war due to U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods others believe a united front is necessary. Much like a chess game the ministers strategize their moves against China's export dominance.
