A Bear-y Big Deal for Japan's Defense
Right, so I saw this news about Japan selling warships to Australia. Warships. Like, proper big boats with… well, I assume they have all sorts of important bits inside, not just a place for my Teddy to sit. Apparently, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – sounds like a very serious company, not unlike Mrs. Wicket when she's lost her dentures – is making these ships. Their shares went up, which I think means they got more money. Good for them. More money for beans on toast, perhaps?
First Sail for Japanese Warships
This is Japan's first time selling warships, ever. A bit like when I tried to sell my car after painting it myself. It was… unique. Anyway, these ships are going to the Royal Australian Navy. They'll be replacing some older ones, a bit like when I replaced my toothbrush (only after dropping it in the loo, of course). Delivery is scheduled for 2029. That's quite a wait. Hopefully, they won't need them before then. Speaking of spending cash, have you read Web-Slinging Economist: Why the Rich Are Still Splashing Cash. It's quite revealing.
Loosening the Regulations
Japan is also apparently loosening its rules about selling weapons. Seems a bit serious, doesn't it? Like when I tried to fix Mrs. Wicket's television and nearly blew up the neighborhood. Sometimes, things are better left alone. But, I suppose, if it keeps the peace… then maybe it's not so bad. Though, I still prefer a good cup of tea and a biscuit to all this.
Out with the Old, In With the New
The new warships will replace the ANZAC-class in the Australian Navy. ANZAC sounds like a brand of biscuits. I wonder if they have any. These new ships are based on the Mogami-class frigate. Sounds very fancy. Probably has more buttons than I can count. I'd probably press them all.
A Rising Tide in the Indo-Pacific
Canberra – that's in Australia, I believe – released a defense strategy. They are worried about China's growing power. So, they are buying more ships. I suppose it's like when I bought extra locks for my door after seeing a suspicious-looking cat. A bit of security never hurts, does it? Though, I'm not sure ships will scare off a determined cat.
Ripple Effects in the Market
Other companies like NEC, Mitsubishi Electric, and Hitachi are involved too. Their shares also moved around a bit. It's all very complicated. Like trying to understand Mrs. Wicket when she's talking about the garden club. I just nod and smile and hope for the best. And maybe a biscuit.
