Passengers deplane after a Swiss International flight aborted takeoff due to an engine malfunction
  • Swiss International flight LX147 from Delhi to Zurich aborted takeoff due to an engine issue.
  • Four passengers and one crew member sustained injuries during the emergency evacuation.
  • An investigation task force has been initiated by Swiss International to determine the cause of the incident.
  • Normal operations have resumed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport following the emergency.

Another Day Another Near Disaster

Alright people, Ripley here. Seems like the friendly skies are getting less friendly by the minute. News out of Delhi says a Swiss International flight heading to Zurich had a bit of a hiccup. By 'hiccup,' I mean an engine decided to throw a temper tantrum mid-takeoff. Four passengers and one of the flight crew ended up with injuries during what I'm sure was a 'smooth' emergency evacuation. Remember when I said 'I want to live' Well, they probably were thinking the same.

Engine Trouble? Sounds Familiar

The airline's being tight-lipped about the specifics, but reports are hinting at an engine fire. An ENGINE FIRE during takeoff. Seriously? What is this, a bad sci-fi movie? You know, I've dealt with worse – alien acid blood, anyone? But still, an engine going up in flames is never a good sign for your travel plans. Makes you think twice about that duty-free Toblerone. Speaking of travel plans, planning your travel could be hard especially with Sky-High Airfare Alert Is My Private Jet Still Chic, it is really getting hard.

Emergency Evacuation Protocol What Could Go Wrong

So, the crew aborted the takeoff and initiated an emergency evacuation. Now, evacuations are never fun. They're chaotic, stressful, and usually involve yelling and questionable decision-making. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt (it's probably got alien slime on it). But hey, at least they're alive right? 'Adios' I tell myself after every near death experience.

The Blame Game Begins

Swiss International has launched a task force to investigate. Translation They're going to spend weeks pointing fingers and generating reports while someone else fixes the problem. Hopefully, they'll get to the bottom of it before another engine decides to audition for a Michael Bay film. Because people need to know what the HECK is going on out there. I do and I have seen things...

Indira Gandhi Airport Back in Business

The good news is that Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is back up and running. So, you can all go back to complaining about overpriced airport food and delayed flights. Just try to avoid any planes with suspiciously smoky engines, okay? If you see flames, RUN!

Trust the Process

Look, flying can be a pain, but most of the time, it's safe. This incident is a reminder that things can go wrong, but also that there are systems in place to handle those situations. So next time you're boarding a plane, take a deep breath, buckle up, and try not to think about exploding engines. And if you do see something, say something. 'Cause out there, no one can hear you scream.
