Nomadic Aviation repositions Spirit Airlines planes to the Arizona desert for storage amid the airline's bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Nomadic Aviation successfully repossessed 23 Spirit Airlines planes, relocating them to storage facilities in Arizona.
  • The operation involved intricate logistical planning, including fueling, inspections, and securing flight crews.
  • The demand for used aircraft parts, particularly engines, is high due to supply chain shortages.
  • Nomadic Aviation's expertise in aircraft transport and repossession highlights a specialized niche in the aviation industry.

Airlines Face Turbulence, Repossession Takes Flight

Trouble, Spirit Airlines faced. Shut down before dawn, they did. But for Steve Giordano of Nomadic Aviation Group, only the beginning, it was. More than 20 Spirit planes to repossess, he organized. A massive operation, it was. Repossessing planes, not always fun, it is. Like podracing, but with more paperwork, hmm.

From Bright Yellow to Desert Sands, A Journey

From airports around the country to the Arizona desert, these planes flew. By Giordano and his team, they were ferried. Just hours earlier, full of passengers, they were. Now, to the desert, they go. The climate there, reduces corrosion, it does. Parked in the desert, many planes are. During the pandemic, thousands were. In Arizona's heat, they wait. Did someone say something about chips and semiconductors? It reminds me of the article I wrote: Singapore Server Shenanigans Did Someone Say Nvidia Chips, where I covered similar challenges in the tech world, hmmm.

The Force of Logistics, Strong it Must Be

Fuel, inspections, crews, all must be secured. Unlike airlines with large staffs, more responsibility, Nomadic carries. Getting the mission done, that is the goal. Flying, the easy part, Giordano says. "Do or do not. There is no try," he says. Expertise, they must have. "Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you?" Hmmm.

A Rare Mission, Repossession Is

Transporting aircraft to new customers, Nomadic usually does. Rarely, repossessing planes, they must. When an airline liquidates, it happens. "Difficult to see; always in motion is the future," I always say. Spirit's collapse, the biggest in decades, it was. Part of the liquidation, returning planes to lessors, is.

Galley Carts and Free Snacks, a Repossession Perk

Forgot to eat, Giordano did. Hungry, he was. Milano cookies and cheese, he found. Free and unlimited, they were. Wi-Fi, though, he had to pay for. "Adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things," but a full stomach, he needs, hmmm.

Engines in Demand, The Market Changes

Engines not part of the Pratt & Whitney recall, in high demand, they are. Values of secondhand parts, lifted by supply chain shortfalls, they have. "The engines that were operational will be very welcomed," says Stuart Hatcher. "Surreal," Giordano found it. Flying the last Spirit plane out of Philadelphia, he was. "This is the last time this will ever happen, and I happen to be flying it," he said.
