Tesla vehicles under scrutiny as NHTSA escalates investigation into
Tesla vehicles under scrutiny as NHTSA escalates investigation into "Full Self-Driving" system.
  • NHTSA elevates probe into Tesla's FSD system due to potential safety defects under reduced visibility.
  • Investigation covers 3.2 million Tesla vehicles across Model S, X, 3, Y, and Cybertruck lines.
  • Tesla's FSD system allegedly fails to adequately detect and warn drivers in conditions like glare and fog.
  • Crashes reviewed show FSD failing to recognize impaired camera visibility until moments before impact.

NHTSA Cracks Down on Tesla's "Full Self-Driving"

Jagshemash, Americans. Borat here, reporting live from, well, not Kazakhstan. Turns out, your National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – very nice! – is giving Tesla a bit of a headache. They're escalating an investigation into this "Full Self-Driving" thing. Seems like sometimes, when it's foggy or the sun is too bright, the Tesla goes 'I cannot see anything', much like my neighbor Nursultan Tulyakbay when he drinks too much fermented horse milk.

3.2 Million Teslas Under the Microscope

This is not small potatoes, my friends. We are talking about 3.2 million cars. Model S, Model X, even the Cybertruck – all under suspicion. The NHTSA is worried that the FSD system has 'safety defects' that make it risky to use when the visibility is not so good. This is a big problem. Like when I tried to bring my bear to a formal dinner. Not very nice. In other news, Meta Bets Big on Dutch Cloud Giant Amid AI Arms Race. This investment could mean better AI assistance for services, which in turn could mean more advanced driver assistance systems become available which can then further accelerate FSD development. Exciting times for technology.

The Glare and the Obscurants: FSD's Kryptonite

The agency says Tesla's FSD sometimes fails to detect and/or warn the driver when visibility is poor. Glare, fog, maybe even dust from my very own homeland blowing across the highway. These 'degraded visibility conditions' are apparently giving the Tesla's computer brain a hard time. Very bad. Much like trying to understand Pamela Anderson's political views.

Crashes and Camera Calamities

In the crashes they looked at, the NHTSA says that the Tesla system "did not detect common roadway conditions that impaired camera visibility." Imagine this: You're driving, thinking your car is smarter than you, and then BAM, the camera can't see, and you're in a pickle. Much like when I tried to fly an airplane using only instructions from a fortune cookie. Not a success.

From Investigation to Engineering Analysis: Things Get Serious

The probe has been escalated, which means it's getting serious. More scientists with clipboards and furrowed brows. This happened after complaints about crashes where FSD was in use just before the accident. Even worse, one involved a pedestrian being killed. This is not just a "wa wa wee wa," this is a tragedy.

Tesla's Silence Speaks Volumes

Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment. Perhaps they are busy inventing a new type of battery, or maybe Elon Musk is planning his next trip to space. Whatever the reason, their silence is…suspicious. Very suspicious. Like when my neighbor says he didn't steal my wife but is wearing her clothes. I smell a rat.
