The Pentagon is scratching its head over Anthropic's AI model Mythos and potential security concerns
  • The Department of Defense is worried about Anthropic's AI model, Mythos, and its cyber capabilities.
  • The DOD is concerned about supply chain risks associated with Anthropic, despite Mythos' potential usefulness.
  • The Pentagon has signed deals with seven other AI companies, including Google and OpenAI, for classified network deployment.
  • Despite the concerns, the DOD and NSA are still evaluating and potentially using Anthropic's models.

D'oh! A National Security Moment

Alright, folks, Homer Simpson here, reporting live from, uh, my couch. So, this Emil Michael guy, big shot at the Department of Doh-fense, says this Anthropic company is givin' 'em the heebie-jeebies. Seems like their AI model, Mythos, is so good at findin' cyber whoozits and whatzits that it's a "separate national security moment." Sounds like a good excuse to panic and maybe order some donuts.

Blacklisted, But Not Forgotten

Now, get this: the DOD blacklisted Anthropic faster than you can say 'Mmm, donuts,' because they thought Anthropic was a supply chain risk. Whatever that means. Basically, they don't trust 'em. But, plot twist, they might still be usin' Anthropic's Mythos model. Talk about a pickle. This is like me sayin' I'm on a diet while simultaneously polishing off a box of chocolate frosted donuts. Guardrails and Doughnuts

Michael says they want guardrails, which I assume are those things that keep you from fallin' off a cliff, or in this case, maybe preventin' AI from takin' over the world. Sounds reasonable. Unless those guardrails are made of chocolate. Then, all bets are off. These guardrails are supposedly negotiable, which sounds like a fancy way of sayin' they're still arguin' over it.

The Gang's All Here

So, the DOD made deals with a bunch of other AI companies like Google, OpenAI, and even Elon Musk's xAI. It's like a techy version of Moe's Tavern, except instead of Duff Beer, they're servin' up artificial intelligence. I wonder if they have AI-powered beer?

Opportunistic and Sloppy

Apparently, OpenAI made a deal with the Pentagon right after the DOD dissed Anthropic. The CEO of OpenAI admitted it looked "opportunistic and sloppy." Sounds like somethin' I'd do after spillin' beer on Mr. Burns. "Oops, my bad."

Don't Have a Cow, Man

Even ol' President Trump got in on the action, sayin' Anthropic is "very smart" and could "be of great use." See, even the big guys can't resist the lure of a shiny new tech thingamajig. From a national security standpoint, they gotta check out all the new toys, even the Chinese ones, to see what they can do. Just hope they don't turn into robot overlords.
