Run, Juliana, Run
Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna get. Well, this Illinois Senate primary, it was a big box of chocolates. Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, she won the Democratic primary. Now, I ain't no political expert, but it seems like she's got a good chance in November, 'cause Illinois, well, it's kinda like my Bubba Gump Shrimp Company – mostly Democratic. It's like me running across America, each step a vote. I just kept running, and she just kept winning, I reckon.
Twenty-Five Dollars an Hour
Now, she wants to raise the minimum wage to $25 an hour. That's a whole lot of shrimp money, I tell you what. Back when I was shrimping with Bubba, we weren't making that kind of dough. She also wants to get rid of ICE, that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Seems like a big deal, especially in Chicago, where folks have strong feelings about it. Speaking of feelings, remember Jenny? I had a lot of feelings for her. Speaking of media, I read an interesting article called Versant Media's First Earnings Report Card A Mixed Bag which also had a lot of numbers in it.
Black Senator on the Bayou
If she wins in November, she'd be one of the few Black folks in the Senate. That's like me being the only one on the shrimp boat who knew what he was doing. Remember Cory Booker? He's likely getting re-elected too, so that's good news. Seems like things are changing, just like when I accidentally started that whole jogging craze.
Crypto Blues and Political Views
Now, there's this whole cryptocurrency thing, and it seems like it's causing a ruckus. This "super PAC" was throwing money at one of the other candidates. Seems like everyone's got an angle, just like when I invested in Apple. I didn't know what an Apple was back then, but Lieutenant Dan said it was a good idea. Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good, I always say.
House Races and Open Spaces
There were other races going on too, for the House of Representatives. Seems like a lot of folks are retiring, making room for new blood. That's like when Bubba passed on and left me his shrimp business. Big shoes to fill, just like Senator Durbin's. And remember the house where I growed up. Sometimes it passes into memory.
Democratic State of Mind
Illinois is pretty Democratic, so they're not expecting much trouble in the midterm elections. Seems like the Democrats are doing alright these days, what with winning the Virginia governorship and all. Maybe things are changing, just like when I learned to play ping-pong. I wasn't very good at first, but I kept at it, and before I knew it, I was playing in China.
